Basic Info
Name:Jale
Bio
1. Name: Jale
2. Star Position: Tentai, the Retreating Star
3. Game(s): Suikoden Tierkreis
4. Age and Birthday: Age: 16; Birthday: January 9
5. Appearance: Jale is fit for a guy his age, bearing a confident stance. His hair is dull blonde and hangs in a long ponytail. His head is topped by a distinctly floppy green hat with a snug red- and lavender-striped band around his forehead. His top consists of a white form-fitting short-sleeved shirt reminiscent of a pao; it folds over to the right and is trimmed around the edges with dark brown. On his left sits a prominent shoulder guard of brown with hanging brown tassels. His pants are light orange and baggy for comfort. The ends tuck into his sandals, which extend halfway up his calves and expose his toes and heels. A pair of simple brown bracers covers his forearms and the backs of his hands. Tied around his hip is a thick sash striped with red-orange and green with one end hanging down to his knee.
6. Personality: Jale is generally calm, quiet, and alert, but he will not hesitate to voice his opinion. He is very reasonable and will approach most situations with a level head. He is aware of his own limitations and will avoid fights he knows he cannot win. As a boy born and raised in a small village, he doesn’t pay much attention to rank and royalty, speaking casually to commoners and kings alike. He does not trust blindly, but when one does earn his confidence, Jale will give that person his utmost loyalty. He values his closest friends highly and will go to great lengths in order to ensure their well-being. On a side note, Jale is not afraid of fighting or manhandling girls if they are causing trouble (likely due to his and his mother’s merciless one-on-one bouts since childhood).
7. Weapons: Fights best with his fists; he can wield gloves with attachments, claws, or bare hands. He is also capable of longer-ranged weapons such as spears, but he does not prefer them.
8. Occupation: Works as a fighter in Sieg’s company.
9. Talents: Athletic? I also like to think that he dabbles in things like wood carving…
10. Runes Marks of the Stars: Shrike Strike, Fortify, Bind Lightning, Strike-Back
11. Weaknesses: He is strong physically, but poor at dealing and receiving magic attacks. He can become cripplingly clumsy when something is truly worrying him.
12. History: Jale was born and raised in Citro, a small, quiet village far removed from any major towns or cities. There, he made childhood friends of Sieg, Marica, and later Liu. As a kid, he was known as a troublemaker along with Sieg, though he has grown calmer since then. He learned how to fight from Dirk and his mother Selen, who left the village when he was very young for her bodyguard work and returned once every year to test his abilities.

When he was 15 years old, Jale, Sieg, Marica, and Liu set out on their first mission for Citro’s Defense Corps under the guidance of Dirk: they were to exterminate aggressive Laggarts on Eastern Hill. After failing to find the Laggarts’ lair, the group turned back; however, as they retraced their steps, a bright green light engulfed the valley and a large forest erupted from the ground to replace it. Despite Sieg’s protests that there used to be a valley there, the others insisted that the forest was always there. Regardless, the group pressed on to the newly formed forest in search of the laggarts’ cave.

What they found was not a cave, but ruins full of strange, demonic creatures stronger than anything they had encountered before. Blocked from the entrance, the Defense Corps withdrew further into the ruins until they were trapped in a large circular room with only a single book on the floor. After touching it, Jale, Marica, and Sieg saw a vision and received the Mark of the Stars, which granted them newfound powers and enabled them to fend off the monsters. Though Liu and Dirk touched the book, neither seemed to see or gain anything. After gaining their new powers, Jale and Marica were able to recall that the forest had never been there before, and the group decided that it would be best to keep quiet about the book, or else be seen as crazy by the rest of the village.

Upon their return to the village, the Defense Corps learned that Marica – or someone who looked like her – had been making threats around the village in their absence. The group (minus Dirk) decided to pursue this imposter, and they made their way to Flesaria Forest.
There, they met a small group of Wanderers, a nomadic people who traded goods wherever they went. A Wanderer named Hotupa joined them in their search for the imposter, as he was looking for something of his own as well. As they made their way through the forest, they came upon a strange bird that the group could not kill, no matter how much they injured it. As their strength began to dwindle, a mysterious girl appeared and killed off the creature with one stroke. To the Defense Corps’s amazement, the girl looked and sounded exactly like Marica. Some conversation revealed that the girl was also named “Marica”, the creature was called a “Renegade”, and that it could only be defeated by people from other worlds. By way of explanation, the other Marica and Hotupa took the Defense Corps to the nearby fortress ruins; there, they found a yellow light in the floor, a “gateway” to other worlds. Eager to see the other Marica’s world, Sieg immediately ran into the gateway, followed by Jale, Marica, and Liu. They reappeared in the Corridor, a connecting point between all worlds. The group proceeded to enter the door to the other Marica’s world; however, Sieg was unable to follow through to the other side and reappeared in the Corridor no matter how many times he tried. Unperturbed, he dropped the subject and the group moved back to the fortress ruins. Suddenly, a Renegade appeared from the Gateway, and the party chased it down and defeated it. The other Marica then revealed that the reason why she had come to their world was to kill the Renegade she had seen go through their world’s door. With her mission accomplished, she went back to her own world. As an afterthought, Hotupa touched the book they found in the forest ruins and also received a vision and the Mark of the Stars. Curious about the book, the party then decided to head for the largest library in the world at Cynas. At this point, Liu announced that he would head back to Citro to inform the rest of the village of their whereabouts since he did not have the Mark of the Stars and was uninvolved. Hesitantly, the group watched him go and set out for Cynas.

In order to reach Cynas, however, the group had to pass through the city of Grayridge, famous for its mines. There, they needed to obtain a pass from the Order Secretary in order to pass through Fort Arc. It was here that the Citro villagers had their first encounter with the Order of the One True Way, which preached that all of its followers must follow a single, predetermined path of life and accept their fate as it was shown to them. The Order foretold the coming of the One King, who would lead his followers to a world in which every day would be predictable and the ultimate happiness would be achieved. After Secretary Macoute arrogantly and condescendingly brushed off the group because distributing passes was not on his schedule for days, the group decided to regroup at the inn. There, they were met by Erin, the innkeeper’s daughter, who had been acting as Macoute’s assistant in an attempt to expose his corruption. Upon her request, the party headed down to Grayridge Mines and discovered a hoard of the citizens’ belongings, supposedly taken as taxes. In the pile, they discovered another book that gave them all one more vision and new Marks of the Stars. With this solid evidence, the group was able to discredit Macoute and obtain a pass from Gilliam, the highest officer under the Secretary.

The group finally arrived at Cynas, but they did not like what they saw there; the people there followed the One True Way with more zeal than the people of Grayridge, and they accepted death unquestioningly if the Order predicted it. After questioning the librarian about the strange book, they found themselves being pursued by the Archivists, a group set on obtaining the books in their possession, the “False Chronicles”. The party retreated to the fortress ruins and decided to make it their headquarters in a stand against the Archivists. There, Liu was reunited with them and acted as their strategist. After hearing of their plight, the Magedom of Janam and the Blades of Night’s Veil decided to assist in their defense. After successfully repelling the Order, Sieg and company decided to actively fight so that the Order could not return and threaten them or Citro.

Acknowledging that Sieg’s company was too small to be independent, the group allied with the Magedom. There, they amassed more members for their company; all the while, Sieg and company witnessed the true nature of the Magedom’s ruler. Unhappy with what they saw, Sieg’s company finally broke off ties with the Magedom and became a truly independent force.

As the army grew in size, Jale gradually took on a quieter role as a fighter and source of emotional support for Sieg. It was during this time that he was finally able to defeat his mother, Selen, in one-on-one combat and gain her support for the fight against the Order. He was witness to all of the company’s struggles; they learned that each world had its own True Chronicle, a book with information that, if extracted by a “reader”, could foretell all of that world’s natural disasters. Events caused by humans, however, could not be foretold by anyone. The False Chronicles in the company’s possession were actually True Chronicles from worlds destroyed by the One King. The Order’s leader, Valfred, had been seeking the False Chronicles so that he could cause the disappearance of certain parts of the world in offering to the One King’s coming. The vanished land would be replaced by portions of the world belonging to that False Chronicle, and anybody without the Mark of the Stars would have their memories rewritten to believe that the new land had always been there and that the vanished land had never existed. It was in this process that the Magedom of Janam was sacrificed to the One King, and millions of lives were forgotten. With a renewed sense of urgency, Sieg’s company pressed on to attack Cynas and prevent Valfred from summoning the One King.

In an attempt to get rid of Sieg’s company, Valfred used a False Chronicle to try and erase their headquarters; however, Dirk, who had been enlisted as an Archivist, was able to arrive on time and take Liu’s Scribe tattoos onto himself. With the tattoos’ power, Dirk was able to redirect Valfred’s aim at the cost of his own life. Horrified, Sieg, Jale, Marica, and Liu grieved for their lost mentor. With a renewed sense of purpose, Sieg’s company made the final push to Cynas.
Finally face-to-face with Valfred, the party discovered that they were too late to prevent the One King’s coming. The One King then cast a spell over Sieg’s company to show them paradise…

All of the Starbearers found themselves in a world in which they each relived their own most precious memory every day in an eternal loop. However, each Starbearer was able to individually break free of the One King’s spell, and they regrouped at Headquarters for one final assault. After confronting Valfred once more, they were able to defeat him and face the One King. After a long and arduous battle, the party was able to use the twelve False Chronicles in their possession to weaken his defenses and strike him down. Triumphant, the company returned home to live their lives peacefully.

After the war, Jale stayed in Sieg’s company as a fighter, while also training under his mother.
